Switch from KeePass or KeePassXC to tigerpassword

No export needed — tigerpassword opens your .kdbx file directly with your KeePass password, previews everything, and imports it. Same values, nicer sync.

If you use KeePass or KeePassXC you already believe what we believe: your passwords should live in a file you hold. tigerpassword keeps that and adds the parts KeePass leaves to you — sync that resolves conflicts, autofill on phones, passkeys, and a second secret that protects the file even when the password is weak.

The easiest move of all

You do not export anything. Your KeePass vault is a file, usually ending in .kdbx. Point tigerpassword at it:

vault-cli import ~/my.vault ~/Documents/Passwords.kdbx

tigerpassword asks for your KeePass password (and uses your key file if the database has one) so it can open the database. That password is used right there on your computer and never stored. The preview shows what would be added; add --commit to write it:

vault-cli import ~/my.vault ~/Documents/Passwords.kdbx --commit

Because there is no plain export, there is nothing to delete afterwards — your .kdbx stays as locked as it always was.

What comes across

Groups become tags, entries keep their title, username, password, URL and notes, custom string fields arrive as custom fields, TOTP settings become working one-time-password fields, and attachments are stored encrypted. KeePass history entries are not imported (tigerpassword keeps its own history from the moment an item arrives).

KeePass is free and audited, and if that is what matters most to you, keep using it — genuinely. The security page explains what the Secret Key adds, and the comparison pages show how we think about being honest with people who are weighing options.
